Cacti are typically desert-dwelling plants that thrive in dry, desert conditions, but these plants also make excellent indoor houseplants. This guy stands 12" tall, with gorgeous silvery green coloring in a modern ceramic pot.
Performs best in full sun or light shade, in well-drained soils. This plant tolerates a wide variety of soils as long as they are well-draining. Keep dry in winter but provide occasional water during the growing season. Do not overwater and allow to dry fully before watering again.
The yellow, bowl-shaped flowers are up to 2.8 inches (7 cm) long and 3.2 inches (8 cm) in diameter. They appear in late spring and summer at the edges of the upper stem segments. Flowers are followed by fleshy, barrel-shaped fruits that are pink or purple and up to 3.6 inches (9 cm) long.
Light Requirements:
Bright light. A potted cactus will live and flower in the house if given enough light, place the plant near a bright lighted window, where it will receive light most of the day.
Watering:
As little as once a month depending on the dryness of the house. TIP: Take a wooden pencil and place it down through the soil to the bottom of the pot, when removed, if damp soil is stuck to it don't water. After a few try's you will learn when to water.
